Reflections On Week 4 Grace

After shortlisting some of the natural disasters, we decided to choose tsunamis and earthquakes as our main focus.

So far we have found out that

1. A natural disaster is the consequence of a natural hazard which affects human activities

2. Tsunamis and earthquakes has quite a close relationship as most tsunamis (recorded by history) are caused by earthquakes.

3.A tsunami is a series of waves created when a body of water, such as an ocean, is rapidly displaced.

4. Earthquakes that are above or below sea, volcanic eruptions and landslides can lead to potential tsunamis.

5. Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (PTWS) is a precaution of tsunamis.

6. The objective of the PTWS is to detect, locate and determine the magnitude of potential tsunami earthquakes occurring in the Pacific Basin or its immediate margins.

7. After PTWS confirmed a tsunami

-A tsunami warning is issued to warn of an imminent tsunami hazard

-The warning includes predicted tsunami arrival times at the selected coastal communities and distance the tsunami could travel in a few hours 

-The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio System then provides direct broadcast of tsunami information to the public.

Week 4 Reflection

We have currently chosen our main focus on Natural Disaster which are Tsunamis and Earthquakes since they are some how similar in their causes.We have also came out with some important guiding questions like :
1. What is a tsunami or an EarthQuake?
2. How are they caused?
3. How often and where do they usually occur?
... and much more.

However we have not decided on how we would present about our project and what suitable resources we should get information from.

Facts:

World Weather Disasters can be split into many different types as there are many forms of weather disasters. Weather Disasters is just the main "umbrella" terms for each disaster like EarthQuake , Etc.

Ideas:

We can check on books , resources and old weather disasters reports of the past disasters and about how they occur.

Learning Issues:

I want to find out about the main causes for each of the disasters and pick out the suitable disaster that we want to research on and to talk about it.

Actions Plan:

Find Main Websites which provide daily weather disasters report and some main sources for previous information about disasters.

What We Already Know About The Topic: There are many weather disasters happening around the world throughout the year and because of Global Warming, Disasters happens more often.

What Questions We Want to ask about the project:We would want to know the special causes for each disasters(Ex. Tornadoes, Tsunamis, EarthQuakes ) and where do they usually happen.

Where Can We Find information for the project : We Can use Online resources and books and weather reports from the pasts.

What Do We Want to Tell Others About our project : We want to explain and tell them things about the disasters which some people have never heard before.
